Question:
I have been diagnosed with Osteoporosis -2.5 in my spine. I do not want to take Fosamax and i have been told to take 1,500 mg of Calcium and Vitamin d3 nothing has been said about magnesium. Can I get a Natural Calm supplement with Calcium and Magnesium that will help this condition and stop it from getting worse. JB
Answer:
Our bones are made up of 2 parts calcium plus 1 part magnesium. If you don’t have the magnesium to combine with the calcium, your calcium is not able to build bone. Most people are magnesium deficient and hence, most people get osteoporosis. Also, people with decent kidneys cannot get a toxic amount of magnesium, if you receive more than your body can handle, it goes to your colon and hydrates it; i.e. you will get the runs. If you get too much calcium, you will get calcium deposits. These deposits can manifest as kidney stones, arthritis in the joints, bone spurs and even cataracts.
Now once you have enough calcium and magnesium, you body doesn’t know where to put it and vitamin D3 helps point the way. So all three are equally essential.
Fosamax works by filling in the cells of your bone with calcium; while making them denser, they also have a tendency to be more brittle and not stronger.
Because most people are magnesium deficient, your body will take what magnesium it has and prioritize it. Your heart and brain need a lot of magnesium so they come first.
Because of the above, we have formulated a product called Magnesium Supreme plus Calcium. It is 3 parts magnesium, two part calcium and contains vitamin D3. It will work well to help you build bones.
There is one other critical step in building bones and that is exercise, “if you don’t use it you lose it”. Just like your muscles, if you exercise you will build muscles and bones.
Once exercise triggers the body to build bone mass, then you need to make sure you have adequate building blocks (i.e. calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3…) to create that bone mass.
