The name has changed from “Natural Calm” to “Magnesium Supreme”. The reason is that with the new EU regulations we are not allowed to call it “Natural Calm” because “Natural Calm” is considered to be a claim.
We also changed the label further to make it EU and UK compliant and it is now registered with the Irish Health Board. It is the same product and formula as Natural Calm, just with an EU compliant label. Even though there is a lot of research to support that magnesium helps calm people, reduce anxiety, and relax them, we are not allowed to make those claims.
The dose also officially changed to meet EU regulations. The dosage before was 150% of USA RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance). The new dosage is 108% of EU RDA. Magnesium Supreme has its dose listed in grams whereas Natural Calm is listed as teaspoons. The dosage we recommend to people is to “start with a teaspoon and slowly increase your dose until your stools are comfortably loose, then you are at the optimal level”. If you think about it, we are all different and it is ludicrous to think of one dosage fitting all. The RDAs are actually set fairly low to fit the general populous. A 50Kg person has a different requirement than a 100kg person. The more stress you are under the more magnesium you need. Our brains take a lot of magnesium, so even the more you think, the more you use. Athletes deplete many electrolytes including magnesium faster than non-athletic types. The more magnesium deficient your body is, the more magnesium you will need to replenish your body. Our diets vary widely, so some of us take in more magnesium naturally. However, we must remember that cooking removes most of the magnesium. RDAs are just a good start to go by.
The ingredients are the same as Natural Calm but listed differently than they are on the Natural Calm bottle. Both Magnesium Supreme and Natural Calm are made from magnesium carbonate and citric acid in a proprietary blend. When you add hot water, the two combine to make magnesium citrate. The magnesium is then in the optimal pH balance for maximum absorbability. In the USA, Natural Calm lists the active ingredient i.e. magnesium citrate. Magnesium citrate is not on the EU positive list so we list the actual ingredients.
